Golden Hinokii Cypress, Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Crippsi' is a fine, pyramidal tree form of Hinoki cypress with an open branching pattern and bright, golden foliage (especially when new) intermixed with glossy green. It does best when shielded for the hottest afternoon sun. A mature specimen, after 10 years of growth, can measure 10 feet (3 m) tall and 4.5 feet (1.5 m) wide, an annual growth rate of 8 to 10 inches. It is relatively disease and problem free. Glorious in the filtered shade or forest garden and tolerant of many soil types, and makes a nice privacy/wind screen, as long as it isn't too hot and dry.
Beautiful in the shade or Japanese Garden or as an allee.
