Cardinal flower, or red lobelia is one of the more prominent attracters of hummingbirds, and it's scarlet corolla is unsurpassed. Grows well in wetland and typical garden soils. Cut capsules off before they mature to keep the plants robust. Lobelia cardinalis does well in many conditions, from bright, sunny wet places to shady woods, and garden soils of varying fertility.
We sometimes carry the 'black truffle', or "Queen Elizabeth" varieties that have deep, red, or red-black foliage.
