Aesculus pavia
Red buckeye (Aesculus pavia) is a small North American native tree, capable of reaching 25 to 30 feet tall in the wild though is most often at 15 to 20 feet high when grown in cultivation. This beautiful tree is a hummingbird magnet and provides a red bud/floral display for up to a month or more. It is tidy and great for back yards and small spaces, growing up to 25' tall. It is adaptable, but performs best in light shade to partial sun, mesic conditions, and a fertile loam with decaying organic matter. Red Buckeye tends not to be susceptible to either insect pests or disease organisms, except late summer leaf loss diue to anthracnose has been described under certain circumstances. Usually winter buds have formed and the plant is fine the following year. It is hardy to Zone 4 or 5.
It's a real stunner when it's in bloom.
