The ‘Barmstedt Gold’ Witch Hazel is a golden yellow-flowered shrub with upright-spreading branching.  It will typically grow to 9-12’ tall and to 9-12' wide. It is noted for its winter-blooming (often february), golden yellow flowers with reddish calyces.  Each flower has four, narrow, ribbon-like, curled and slightly crinkled petals. Axillary clusters of these flowers bloom along the stems from late January to March.  Flowers are nicely fragrant.  Ovate-orbicular dark green leaves (to 4” long) turn attractive yellow in fall.It is easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. It flowers best in full sun, prefering moist, acidic, organically rich soils. Consistent moisture is best.  Shrubs have some tolerance for clay soils as long as drainage is good.  Promptly remove root suckers to prevent colonial spread.  It is particularly important to remove root suckers rising from below a graft union.  Prune in spring after flowering to control shape and size.  Zones 5 - 8.This is a superior winter-flowering shrub for the landscape. Shrub borders, woodland gardens. Screen or tall hedge. Good specimen plant.

Prices listed are subject to change, based upon size change and availability.

We are a small local nursery with limited shipping capability. We will do our best to ship smaller material (usually 1 or 2 gallon), although we can sometimes ship larger plants with the pots removed.

We have some species that are not listed, as we have too few of them to make a full listing plausible. You can always inquire.

We will consider contract growing an order with appropriate advance notice and availability of seed, cuttings or lining out stock.
